Jas E. Heath Esq
Commission of Pensions

We received from your office a Land Warrant ___ No 72939 for 40 acres issued to James Bryan, Private in Capt. Mc Laughin Laury's Company 1st Regiment Maryland Militia War of 1812 dated September 23, 1853. Mr. Bryan in his own Declaration and by subsequent additional affidavits of Amos Willison and John Neff privates in the same companies, establish a service of nearly 6 months which entitles him to 80 acres.

He is anxious to know what there is in the way of getting what he is justly entitled to and supposes there is some mistake which must be rectified.

He holds this warrant for 40 acres subject to your order and requests a reeanimeration of his case and the issue of a warrant for 80 on the return of the 40 acre one____ as he would rather have nothing than 40 acres _____ solemn oathes of these men have shown him entitled to 80 acres. I would respectfully ask what has become of the applications of James Osborn, Catherine Barricklow, Catherine Lewis which have given no signs of vitality for several months.

Your early answer will oblige.

Yours Alfred Howell for Smith Howell
